Fighting in the NHL
Why is fighting viewed as necessary in the NHL, or for that matter, in all
hockey? College and Olympic hockey forbids it, and the games are entertaining
and competitive. We have sports like boxing or wrestling for men wanting to
fight for a living. It's sad to say that the NHL's fighting is the biggest reason why
the NHL's popularity has increased in the past twenty-five years. Sure, the
occasional baseball brawl, the infrequent basketball scuffle, puts a neat edge to
those sports. On the other hand, when this happens, players usually get ejected
from the game or suspended. In hockey, the player gets an insignificant five-
minute penalty. Thus, fighting in the National Hockey League will lead to serious
implications.
Fighting in the NHL is a result of what the majority of hockey fans want.
