Throughout the United States, more than one-third of children do not live with their biological fathers or mother, and about 17 million of those children dont live with any father or mother at all. ... Single parents and their children constitute a rapidly increasing population. ... Many single parents learn to live on reduced incomes, find acceptable ways to deal with non-custodial parent, and redefine their relationships with their children. ... More than one million children are confirmed each year as victims of child abuse and neglect. ... Children are highly influenced by their parents television viewing habits as they establish their own viewing patterns. ... Children begin to notice and react to television and media influence very early. ... Through special effort, the development of family systems where members feel a sense of well being and through positive parenting practices, single parent families can have strong families in which children can thrive. ... In conclusion, I usually feel that there are pro’s and con’s about everything, but I cannot find one pro in the abuse of our children.
