Dating is usually perceived as a pleasant pastime for most people and is looked forward to, unless you have the bad fortune of meeting the wrong person. The wrong person can turn even the strongest, independent persons life up-side down and nearly destroy it. Many adult audiences can relate to the characters and situations in the play Boy Gets Girl by Rebecca Gilman. This play is about a successful female reporter in New York, named Theresa Bedell, who goes on an awkward blind date with a friend of a friend, named Tony. Although the man is attractive, she has no interest in him but he continues to pursue her. Her attitude changes from annoyance to fear as he persists in badgering her on the telephone and sending her massive amounts of flowers. Because of his violent and unrelenting attractions to Theresa, her privacy is invaded and her lifestyle is threatened. My home phone number is unlisted, but he got it somehow. Maybe Linda gave it to him. She said she didn’t, but maybe she gave it to her sister and her sister gave it to him. I don’t know. But anyway, he got it somehow. And last night, I got home about nine o clock and I walked in the door, and turned on the light, and right when I did the phone rang and it was him (Act I, scene 6).
