I always had a great respect for St. Thomas Aquinas, even as a youth. Looking back I certainly know that he was a doctor of the Church. With my many years of Catholic education (preschool through college) it would be difficult to miss that point. I also know that he was a very important philosopher, but to what extent I knew not. In addition I did not know anything about what he actually wrote about except it was consistent with the Catholic Church's teachings. Again this was little help because some of the churches teachings from the Middle Ages have changed, or been reinterpreted, or are no longer applicable to today's modern age. The end result is that I entered first philosophy wholly and entirely clueless to who St. Thomas Aquinas truly was personally and in relation to the world. And it was there, in that class, that I truly was introduced to his teachings...
