Gimpel the Fool "Is Gimpel a Fool?"
In the story Gimpel the Fool, Gimpel is constantly deceived by the people around him. Since childhood Gimpel has been the center of everyone's jokes. As an adult Gimpel marries a wife that consistently betrays him by sleeping with other men and bearing their children. Although Gimpel has seen for his own eyes that there have been other men in his bed, Elka leads him to believe that what he has seen is not true. She denies what Gimpel has seen and even says that he must be out of his head. Gimpel is a decent man who stands by his wife and loves his children dearly. Gimpel mentions in the beginning of the story that it was written in the in the Wisdom of Fathers that everything is possible. Gimpel can't comprehend why people would make these things up and want to fool him. So caring for his family the way he did he convinces himself that perhaps there had been some mistake in what he had seen...
