Can the Commandments Stand the Test of Time?
Before venturing into this discussion too much, I need to share with you why I may have a skewed view on this question. My father taught my religious education classes growing up, and he was a wonderful teacher. He enlightened every class about the Catholic religion, and focused mainly on the Ten Commandments. However, five years ago he was caught breaking the sixth commandment, which is to not commit adultery. In the aftermath of my parents divorce, I was forced to think about my father's religious teachings. How could I believe everything he preached, when he was not following the commandments himself? Can anyone really learn from a hypocrite? These questions still have not been completely answered yet, especially with the recent sex scandals that have been revealed.
