gatsby

“What people are ashamed of usually makes a good story.” -F. Scott Fitzgerald In the book The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald greatly exaggerates the worst part of the American society during the 1920’s, a decade most commonly referred to as the ‘Roaring Twenties’. The end of the First World War in 1919 brought with it twenty years of international peace and a fresh feeling of patriotism in the United States. The Supreme Court was beginning to take notice of the new Women’s Rights Movement. These women were demanding equality in all the aspects of their lives including in the workforce as well as socially. The inventions of the radio and the automobile served as blueprints for our own more modern versions of both these things in the new millennium .The 1920’s was a time when the American dream of wealth and prestige was considered reachable by one and all through hard, honest work and a little bit of luck.
