Nature of sentimentality
Sentimentality is present in Frankie because he is looking for happiness and finds Doc. Doc is kind toward him. The reader is thrilled that Frankie has a place to go now. When Frankie has a crisis at home, he goes to Doc's and stays the night in a crate. Doc's laboratory is Frankie's safe haven. Frankie's opinion in men is swayed by the way Doc treats him. He is surprised that Doc does not beat him or tell him to go away. Frankie cleans, lights cigars and feels loved. He is accomplishing things and is taken care of by Doc.
