Foreshadowing in Hurston's "Sweat"

Foreshadowing is hints or clues that help predict a later event in most literature. In Zora Hurston's "Sweat", conflicts between Delia and Sykes give the reader a feeling of an oncoming tragedy. Although the foreshadowing gives that feeling of what's about to happen, the outcome could be totally different. She uses a lot of foreshadowing in the character's arguments and thoughts to give hints. Some give hints that Delia is going to die and others make you think Sykes. You really never know until the end.
The story is about a married couple, Delia and Sykes Jones, who don't get along. They have numerous arguments about Sykes beating and cheating on Delia. The first foreshadowing is when Sykes throws a bull whip at Delia, pretending it is a snake. "Sykes, what you throw dat whip on me like dat?..
