I. What are polychlorinated biphenyls?
Polychlorinated biphenyls, better known as PCBs, are no longer produced in the United States but continue to cast a gray shadow upon several U.S. communities. Polychlorinated biphenyls are mixtures of up to 209 individual chlorinated compounds. These compounds are also referred to as congeners. The industrial chemicals share the same basic chemical structure and similar physical properties.
