Performance Enhancing Drugs
Performance enhancing drugs are used in nearly every sport today. They are taken for a wide variety of reasons. These reasons are grouped I three different categories: physical, psychological, and social. One of the sports that are being looked at for the improper use of performance enhancing drugs. Performance enhancing drugs consists of things such as anabolic steroids, supplements, androstene, etc These types of drugs are prohibited in all professional and college athletics.
The physical reasons for using performance-enhancing drugs are to enhance performance, to look more attractive for the opposite sex, to cope with pain and injury rehabilitation, and to control weight. Although all of these reasons are valid, but the main reason athletes use these drugs is to increase performance by increasing speed, strength, endurance, alertness, reaction time, decrease fatigue, and anxiety. When people use enhancing drugs for rehabilitation from injury they do it to try to attenuate pain or to cope psychologically with the physical discomfort of the injury.
