Stepping Outside of the American Box: A Summary of the Research Article Arranging a Marriage in India by Serena Nanda
Today in India, the practice of arranging marriages is an everyday occurrence. Serena Nanda, an anthropologist, took it upon herself, as a traditional American marriage supporter, to research the process more in depth. ...
Nanda first arrived in India and met a family that was attempting to find a worthy mate for their son. Nanda was clear in her writings at expressing that she found this custom to be oppressive, and would be rebellious if hers was the case. In an open-minded attempt, Nanda approached young women to maybe find answers to her questions.
