many people think of imaginary numbers and what there function is, they get quite confused. Throughout the following I will tell you what I think imaginary numbers are and what there function is. In the end you should be able to understand them a little better.
In the beginning, the ancient Greeks believed that all the numbers were rational numbers, which means that every number can be expressed as the ratio of two integers. They were disturbed when it was displayed of the measure of the hypotenuse of an isosceles right triangle. It then was not a rational number which made the statements incorrect. Those new numbers are now called irrational numbers.
But yet there might be more to these imaginary numbers that may only come to certain people. Some people may think they only come to strange peoples brains, but they may not logically. But aren't all numbers in math imaginary?..
