Hawthorne’s symbolism darkly hints at his bias toward Puritans, through stories as “The Minister’s Black Veil” and “Young Goodman Brown”, where Puritans are depicted as stiff, contained, and disgustingly religious people. His negative bias point of view shows in “The Minister’s Black Veil” with the use of the black veil. ... Hooper in “The Minister’s Black Veil” wore a black veil around his face while giving the services and no one said a word about it; Hawthorne does that for the dark sins and secrets that lay inside of people.
