daycaredaycare

Rachael Henderson Daycare independent project These two articles have to do with infant childcare, in the home or in a daycare center. There are many different points of views people have on this specific issue. Positive: A new study says the payoff for all those colds kids catch in daycare is that later, when absences count more, they'll have fewer. Children in large daycare centers - those with six or more kids - appear to develop immunity to many of the viruses responsible for the common cold. The study, by Dr. Thomas Ball of the University Of Arizona College Of Medicine, said the findings should relieve the guilt and anxiety parents often feel when putting their kids in daycare. One morning last May, Linda Ginzel pulled up to the Sweet Tots home-day-care center in her affluent Chicago neighborhood, unbuckled 16-month-old Danny from his car seat and carried him inside, where his favorite caregiver, Anna, was waiting. After a brief bout of tickling, Ginzel left for work with her child's giggles still ringing in her ears. Eight hours later, he was dead. "We thought it was a freak occurrence," says Ginzel, recalling how she returned that afternoon to find that Danny had suffocated when a portable crib collapsed, trapping his neck. Unknown to Ginzel and the day-care operator, however, the government had ordered the crib recalled by the manufacturer five years earlier–after three other children had died in similar accidents.
