CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
Hinduism is the native religion of India. It is not only one of the oldest religious system, but also one of the most complex. The roots extend to the early Indus civilization about 3000 B.C. 'Hindu' is the Persian word 'Indian', the name however dates only from about AD 1200 when the invading Muslims wanted to distinguish the faiths. The Hindus do not have a prophet or other personalities who founded the religion. But sacred writings are very important in the growth of Hinduism. The Vedas, the Upanishads, and the Bhagavad-Gita are among the sacred books. These books where written by wise men and preserved by them.
