Ancient Egyptian Religion
Immense, mystic pyramids with inexplicable origins, powerful pharaohs in awe-inspiring palaces, eerie tombs with mummified bodies and hieroglyphics for underworld guidance. These are all images that come to mind to describe Ancient Egyptian civilization, a society that spanned from 3414 to 330 BC. Like most ancient civilizations, Egypt had its own mythology and pantheon of gods, each with its own realm to take care of, and it is this religion which kept the society united, and the manipulation of it by pharaohs kept them in power and allowed Egypt to continue to prosper economically and expand its influence. What is so alluring about this religion and culture is the fascination with, and importance of death, which gives rise to the complicated mummification procedures, the importance of the afterlife, and the veneration of gods of the underworld.

The afterlife was a significant part of Egyptian religion, as it promised eternal life after death, but only for those who believed and followed the teachings. ... ” Therefore, it was a good reason to conform, and this religion held together the early civilization. Because having a peaceful afterlife was such an important part of Eyptian religion, they devoted much of their lifetime and wealth in preparation for it.
