Song of Myself

In Walt Whitman's poem Song of Myself he defines himself through his body, his relationship with nature and his relationship with people. Whitman begins his poem by saying "I celebrate myself, And what I assume you shall assume, For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you". Whitman is honoring himself and letting the readers know that what he believes we shall believe. He also defines himself through his body by saying "I loafe and invite my soul, I lean and loafe at my ease....observing a spear of summer grass". At this point in the poem Whitman is taking it easy and relaxing. He is into himself and observing the summer grass.
Whitman also defines himself through his relationship with nature by saying "The atmosphere is not a perfume....
