North by Northwest
Throughout all of Hitchcockfs films, North by Northwest included, direction plays an integral factor in the overall tone of the tale. Whether it be a psychotic son pleasing mother or a flock of birds wreaking havoc in a small town, Hitchcock seems to add to his movies a certain direction. Indeed just amounts of simile, metaphor and imagery find themselves a large role in a Hitchcock classic, but direction is the all-important star.
The general direction of North by Northwest is common in the way that it unravels a mystery and concludes with closure. It seems that all Hitchcock films have a certain direction toward a final end thus making for the everyday mystery. However, the way that Hitchcock brings you to this end is what makes the film a masterpiece. Each of his works is chock full of interesting detail and robust metaphor. What makes a Hitchcock film a Hitchcock film is the way in which the audience is forced to view the story. By using camera angles and other cinematic techniques, Hitchcock is able to create his own take on the tale by forcing the audience to see it in a different light. Perhaps the overall tone of the story is warped using these techniques, but Hitchcock is a genius when it comes to the final conclusion and the giving of closure...
