Teen Suicide: Causes, Rates, and Prevention
Why do teenagers turn to suicide when things do not go as planned? How does suicide affect the friends and family of the victim? Is suicide gender linked or age specific? Instead of committing suicide, maybe teenagers should seek the help that is out there for them in many different forms. These are questions that people have asked for years and it is about time to get some answers.
Why do teenagers even contemplate taking their own life when the road gets a little bumpy? Teens are influenced heavily by other teen's decisions even when it is a bad decision, such as committing suicide (Mitchell 21). It is like a domino effect, one teen that is very close to someone kills himself, and when the person that they were close to finds out they are overcome with emotion and are not really sure what to do. That is when they turn to other things, such as alcohol, drugs, or suicide. "Most teenagers do not realize that their suicide can trigger other teens to do the same thing" (Colman 69)...
