There is a curious double- standard regarding muscular athletic women. For example lets take a one can argue that male power-lifters and body builders are also viewed negatively because of their incredible size and musculature, but they are view as being extra manly, whereas women in the same situation are viewed as less than women and more like man. These double standards continue to exist both in professional and non-professional female athletes daily and the only to change this Both men and women can take part in a game of basketball, football, baseball etc., but despite this fact, inequalities exist in professional and recreational sports. Women's sports have made great strides since the mid 70's. Although gender inequality in sports is still prevalent, prior to the early 1970's, women did not have teams or similar programs that the male's had. Even now in days women had few opportunities to participate in sports and certainly not to same extent that men competed.
