Fools and Their Money
Ricardo stared out of the window at the sparkling lights that flickered from the posh houses that adorned the hillside downtown. He lifted his Jack Daniels towards the dwellings in a silent toast.
He began to think about the people that lived in those houses, rich people, people on the verge of bankruptcy, poor people about to con rich people, gigolos trying to pull a fast one on rich women, transvestites trying to earn an easy buck from some rich pervert and so many others. A vast assortment of humans all bent on how to play the fool. Ricardo had no objection to rich fools. He figured fools and their money were soon parted, and in some way part of that money might find its way into his pockets.
He turned his back on the night and sat at his desk. Slowly the wall clock ticked on approaching ten. Pedro Laferla, his boss, was due to arrive any minute. Ricardo wondered what it was this time...
