Studying Requiem for a Dream
Darren Aronofsky's, Requiem for a Dream would be an excellent choice for a film to study in English 12. Each of the films constituent parts is a master-piece within itself. Not only is the film interesting enough to appeal to college level students, it exhibits a strong anti-drug message. Requiem for a Dream takes you through the lives of four individuals trying to cope with a serious drug addiction. From heroin to diet pills, the movie displays the hectic cycles of a drug addict. Although you may not walk away from this movie happy, it is guaranteed that your emotions will be spinning after the final scenes. The keys to "Requiem's" success are its cinematography, sounds, themes, and character development.
"Requiem's" cinematography is unrivaled by many of the greatest films of all-time. The scenes where the characters are dying for a drug fix are so graphic and disturbing that the audience almost wants them to get their drugs. Furthermore, when they do get their drugs, Aronofsky vividly depicts their process of taking them...
