Emotional Strength and unselfish Decisions in
The Grapes of Wrath
Many people find it difficult to act on their feelings, and emotions. They feel that they cannot express what they mean, and choose to keep it all locked up inside them. On the other hand , there are also many people that have no problem expressing feelings. In the novel, The Grapes of Wrath, by John Steinbeck, Jim Casy, Tom Joad, and Ma Joad, demonstrate great emotional strength, and unselfish decision-making.
The greatest signs of strength and unselfish decision-making are shown by Jim Casy. In the novel, Jim Casy displays emotional strength when he is asked to do the prayers for the Joad family at the dinner table, when Tom sees them for the first time after jail. Casy shows his strength when "Casy ran his fingers through his hair nervously. 'I got to tell you, I ain't a preacher no more. If me jus' bein' glad to be here an' bein' thankful for people that's kind and generous, if that's enough-why, I'll say that kinda grace...
