John Steinbeck's East of Eden tells the story of how a diverse group of people struggle with the good and evil within themselves. It is said to be an "epic novel about individual ethics." There are characters in the book that would be described as extremely good, extremely evil, and some who are in between the extremes. In short, East of Eden tells the one story of lifethe conflict between good and evil. Goodness is absolute; it is always the same. Evilness, however, is relative.
