Visual representation of reality through mass media is known by sociologists to be influential in shaping people's views of the world. Our everyday realities are articulated mostly by what we see in the media. The role of advertising in this interpretation of reality is crucial in our lives. The target audience's self-identification with the images being a basic prerequisite for an advertisement's effectiveness, makes advertising one of the most important factors in the building of behavior models and values systems in today's society. Today's media strives on discovering new schemes to launch messages to the children and adults in society. Sadly, these expensive messages by advertisers are only out to fool society.
There are a number of proven ways to persuade the consumer that he or she needs the product that is being advertised. These methods of persuasion, instead of concentrating on the actual product, usually concentrate on benefits that will be brought to the consumer. These benefits may include the hope of more money and better jobs, popularity and personal prestige, praise from others, more comfort, social advancement, improved appearance, or better health.
