Colour in Design
It is important that we understand the importance of colour in design and incorporate it in to the design process. In this essay I will discuss the implications and the role of colour in design by looking at existing products. I will discuss the psychological and practical use of the chosen colours and the effects of using these colours in the given environment.
Car design is a prime example where colour is used to enhance or out perform competitors.
It is interesting to note that the colour on a car can effect its value by up to one third. A white BMW (although exactly the same) is worth less than a metalic blue car. This is mostly due to fashion but there are psychological reasons behind this as well. A white car is some times seen as "being to clean". I feel that the colour white does nothing to enhance or emphasize the over all shape and form of the vehicle where as the blue can effect the shape and form much more effectively. This means that if you are driving a metallic blue BMW you are far more likely to be noticed than if you were to be driving a white BMW...
