The Unlikely Ones, Ladyhawk, The Anything Box, Red as Blood, and Troll Bridge are all considered fantasy works. Two of these stories have more elements of true high fantasies when compared to the rest. The standard bearer of these is The Unlikely Ones. This story contains all the elements of a true high fantasy. With the exception of Ladyhawk, the rest can easily be described as dark fantasies with some conventional literary elements.
The plot of The Unlike Ones is about two people and five proto-people in the form of a unicorn, cat, crow, fish, and toad that all have the ability to converse with each other. Having been cursed by a witch, with the help of a wizard, all of them set out on a quest to find a dragon that can break their curses. During their quest they have to face several challenges that each character must overcome in order to move on. The plot is very predicable resulting in a happy ending in which all seven characters, including the dragon, are released from their curses.
The setting can't be placed specifically on Earth...
