I have chosen to study two paintings by S.J Peploe and two paintings by F.C.B Cadell. Both artists come from a group of four artists known as the Scottish Colourists who were around from the period 1900-1930. The group has a distinctive style of oil on canvas strongly influenced by Paul Czanne a French artist from the same period. The Scottish Colourists' style is specifically post-impressionism. Their work had a great effect on Scottish art as a whole as previously Scottish art was bound by the straightjacket of academia; the colourist changed the viewpoint and sent Scottish art on the road to creativity and imagination.
