Achieving Iraqs Stability and Prosperity
Even though President Bush declared formally war on Iraq after September 11th many people think that the war in Iraq never stopped after the Gulf War. Economic sanctions were placed on Iraq immediately after Iraq's initial attacks on Kuwait, and they have since then, never been removed. These economic sanctions that were released by the UN in there webpage on Iraq-Kuwait state that "all states shall continue to prohibit the sale and supply arms and related material of all types technology under licensing or other transfer arrangements used in the production, utilization or stockpiling" of arms and related material (UN website). The only things allowed in the resolution are the supplying of medical and health supplies, and foodstuffs. Since the begining of these sanctions in Iraq, Iraq has become a disorganized, slowly decaying nation with thousands dying and a currency greatly unvalued. With a war on Iraq, and regime removal by the United States, many are precautious concerning the future of a disarmed Iraq. What is to happen to Iraq after disarmament? Who gets to decide what happens, and how to make Iraq become a productive country once again?
