Abstract
The Internet is an extremely important new technology, and it is no surprise that it has received so much attention from entrepreneurs, executives and business observers. Many people think that the Internet changes everything, and promotes organizations and industries development. But still other people argue that the Internet influences industries negatively. Some company, for example, have used the Internet technology to shift the basis of competition from quality and service toward price, make it hard to everyone in the industry to make a profit.
The time has come to take a clearer view of the Internet. We need to move away from some words about Internet industries, e-business, and a new economy and see the Internet for what it is. In this essay, I try to explain influences on companies and industries by the Internet technology widely used in two aspects.
First, what will be the Internets impact on industry structure? What are the advantages brought by the use of the Internet technology, and what are the disadvantages? Second, will the Internet strength or threaten the ability of companies to gain sustainable advantages over their competitors?..
