In the play Hamlet the main character Hamlet goes through many inner battles. His life presents him with many different conflicts of interest. Throughout the play other characters went through the same ordeals. In William Shakespeare's Hamlet, Shakespeare presents Hamlet as a static character who because he never chooses emotion over reason until he is forced to, Shakespeare uses metaphors to carry out this point.
Shakespeare in many different situations shows Hamlet and his inner battles for reason over emotion. Hamlet from even before having any knowledge of his fathers ghost has problems with King Claudius and his mother Gertrude, but keeps them quiet because that is the least confrontational way to deal with it. In his first soliloquy he speaks of how he misses his father, how Claudius could never match up to his father. Shakespeare portrays Hamlet's father to Claudius as "A Hyperion to a satyr" (pg. 29, line 144). As he continues to go off on criticizing Claudius he abruptly stops...
