In today's society, many companies are utilizing teams of employees to make decisions in an effort to become more flexible and increase their profits. The utilization of teams also results in an increase in employee morale and productivity as well as customer satisfaction. The article The wolf pack: team dynamics for the 21st century discusses the background on the purpose of teams, the many reasons for team failure and describes the qualities of successful teams. In addition, it explains why organizational teams need to function like a pack of wolves in order to be flexible and adapt to unusual or unexpected events (Johnson, Heiman, & O'Neill, 2000).
