Galileo Galilei (1581-1642) has possibly had one of the greatest effects upon mankind than anyone else. Galileo changed the way people think. Galileo changed the way new ideas were supported and proven by the invention of the telescope. The ideas and new way of thinking ultimately found a world beyond the senses to a place of truth that was beyond the limitations of the human mind alone. This, of course, was all shunned by the Catholic Church and Galileo was forced to deny his finding or be punished. The strength of the Church was too late. Galileo's findings took affect and man has never been the same. Galileo's invention of the telescope revealed a means of finding truth that had never been in use, and because of Galileo's strict adherence to his new thoughts he would be locked in a battle with the mighty Catholic Church.
