The idea of brotherhood and ethics is held by many yet carried out by so very few. Yet, what exactly are ethics and brotherhood? Everybody knows of them and each person has a slightly different view on them. Everybody follows and abides by the ethic laws in which they believe in. Though there are very few people who are willing to stand up and abide by such a belief if it goes against society's opinion. John Woolman was one such man who dared to speak out against practices which he felt immoral. He not only spoke his feelings and sentiments, but he also practiced the words that he preached. As an early Quaker abolitionist, he devoted his life to the freeing slaves, helping of Indians, and assistance to the poor.
