IOW JIMA
The battle of Iwo Jima, February 19, 1945 was just one battle during world war two, that was 1940-1945. It was the last area of the pacific campaign in which the American troops had not yet recaptured from Japans, when they took it over in 1941and 1942. The monument of Iwo Jima was sculpted to look like a picture that was taken during the battle. The picture was taken by photographer, Joe Rosenthal, which later showed sculptor, Felix W. de Weldon. Weldon was so moved by this picture he decided to sculpt a human size model of it, which later became the monument that represent all marines who fault and died for our country and those who are still living ever since 1775.
