The "Journey of the Sperm" is one of the most astonishing escapades that the human race has to offer. Many take for granted the "miracle of life", yet in actuality there is so much knowledge and information behind the reproduction process.
Every male has two visible sex organs from the outside of the body, the testes and the penis. The testes, being the male's primary sexual organ, produce both sperm and testosterone and are very important in human reproduction. Housed in the scrotum, a small sac underneath the base of the penis, the testes manufacture the sperm that will one day embark on the long journey in hopes of one day finding its match. The sperm, which are immature after living in the scrotum for only a short period of time, leave the testes and travel into the coiled tube nearby named the epididymis where they are allowed to stay and mature for up to twenty days. The penis is made up of a large, spongy tissue that stiffens and hardens when it is engorged with blood during arousal and sexual interaction.
During sexual intercourse, the man's muscles contract and send the matured sperm from the ends of the epididymis and down the long tube known as the vas deferens. Here, the sperm is mixed with nutrient-rich fluids from the seminal vesicles and milky secretions from the prostate gland.
