Government and the Media
Not only are the media a crucial influence to the public by delivering their news, media also play an important role in American politics. Since the government draws its power from the people, any institution that has influence over the people also influences the government. This puts a great amount of power in the media, and it is improper that private organizations should have so much political power, especially when a great deal of that power is concentrated in the hands of a relatively small group.
The media are our standard method of getting information and news. Nearly 100% of American households have at least one source of mass media available to them.
