Reality of Television Violence
There is no doubt that television violence affects children. It causes children to be more aggressive, it increases health risks for children and it give children a faulty perception of the world. In the books Viewing Violence, Violence in Film and Television and Stop Teaching Our Kids to Kill, we see and understand that television violence has become more and more of a pressing issue in our world.
Before we can begin to realize how our children are affected by the violence; we first need to understand how it is the children see the world. In the book Viewing Violence, Doctor Levine takes us through the mind of a child.
Allow a three-year-old to play with a red car. In view of the child place the car behind a green filter that makes the car appear to be black. Ask the child what color the car "really" is and he will say black. (85)
This study goes to show that children do not use their common sense when they look at things. So when a child watches television he or she is not using his or her common sense; meaning, he or she will not figured out that what they are seeing is only pretend...
