Rugby is a European sport with aspects of both soccer and football. While playing soccer in the Rugby School of England, William Webb Ellis picked the ball up and ran with it, which sparked the interest of rugby. Cambridge University was the first to start playing the game, creating rules and making it popular locally. The game grew popular in area schools, and in 1871, the first rugby union was founded in London and firm rules were established.
Rugby has many rules and regulations. One rules is forward passes are not allowed. Dropping the ball forward is also illegal and is called a knock-on. Another rule is the ball can only be advanced by running or kicking the ball forward.
