In the two stories about slavery there were three main things that Olaudah Equiano, who was slave to the white, and Mary Rowlandson, who was slave to the Native Americans, dealt with. They were food, family, and living conditions. They were different in both situations because of the form of slavery they both had to deal with. In Mary Rowlandson’s story she was given foods that was different than the foods she eaten before. Some of the food include, corn, boiled horse’s leg, broth from the boiled horses leg, pint of peas, pancakes, boiled bear, and nuts. Most of these foods were rotten and was not kept in good condition. If she refuse to eat the food she was given she was not beaten for it, and could choose weather she wanted to live or die. She would often cook when her master would ask her to. In Olaudah Equiano’s story he was beaten if he refused to eat the food he was given.
