A tradition is a custom so long continued that it has almost the force of a law. In comparing Achebe's book, Things Fall Apart, and Argueta's short story, Microbus to San Salvador one may find traditions that are strictly followed an at times are refuted. In each paperback, many opinions, customs and practices were followed from generation to generation. The importance of tradition is clear through the way each character follows their beliefs and customs. In both stories, Things Fall Apart, and Microbus to San Salvador each character abides by various practices and rituals throughout their survival of life and at times are negated.
In, Things Fall Apart, many customs, rituals, and practices are followed. The citizens of Umofia, (place in Nigeria were the story takes place) travel to the Oracles of the Hills and Caves to find answers to the happenings in their community. This was followed by nearly everyone in the population. Many other traditions were followed such as the Week of Peace. This event happen one week of the year where no one worked and everyone was kind and sharing to each other...
