"Population growth is the primary source of environmental damage," said Jacques Cousteau, a French oceanographer. There is much evidence linked to this statement. Many aspects of our environment are being depleted due to the consequences of overpopulation. The more people on our planet the more energy this is used, the more waste that is created, the more land space gone, and the more forests disappearing. Overpopulation is caused by a number of factors and a solution needs to be made quickly.
History of Human Impacts on the Environment
Environmental damage comes as a result of human impacts on our planet. Humans have been changing the Earth for many years. Intentional burning and deforestation began at least 50,000 years ago. Hunting societies wiped entire species out, two thirds of the large mammals present when the first humans arrived became extinct.
