He was one of the people responsible for the death of 60 white plantation owners and there families, in August of 1831. Nat Turner and his 80 followers strengthened the southern will to defend slavery. After the rebellion slave owners believed that education was the reason for the revolting. It was the “Pathway from slavery to freedom” Frederick Douglas knew that the way out of slavery was to get an education. In 1838 douglas got a good job and was making good money, but he could not keep any of it. He would eventual escape and become free. No matter how he used his education he could not be free until he took it upon himself and escaped.
