Shock Value
Barbara Kruger is best known for her public art. She often uses big spaces and blatant messages to communicate with her audience. Typically, her work deals with the subtext and culture of our society. She encourages us to pay attention to issues that we don't talk about because they are undeveloped and uncomfortable within our culture. The colors she uses to convey her messages provoke emotions of hostility towards both her and the advertisement.
Barbara Kruger's image 'Look at Me' shows a woman with heavy eye makeup staring into the camera with wind blown hair covering her face. The portrait of the woman is interesting because her eyes are the main focus and do say, "Look at me." A red stamp with white text gives a voice to the woman.
