The year of 1849, more properly elapsed the 5 of March, when, through license was granted by queen D. Maria II the Heading of National Plant, to the possessed installations for João of Brito. This trader of the Square of Commerce of Lisbon, armed of enterprising and visionary spirit, had acquired, in 1844, all the space of the old convent and the church of the Devout António, then abandoned, where the vapor mounted a milling and a warehouse of wines. He was born, thus, the National mark. If not accomodating to the situation where it was its business, he immediately installed a new plant of milling of English millstones. All this investment brought its fruits through diverse medals of gold in national expositions and international, it enters the years of 1861 and 1894. Century XX brought obtains the expansion. The raised manufactured product quality and the concorrencial level of that it made use had been kept, when its heirs had constituted a corporate name with the name of National Company of Milling. The company acquired industrial units installed in Xabregas and Avenue 24 of July, respectively the João Luis of Sousa and Cª and the Manuel Rodrigues Vaquinhas, thus appearing the New National Company of Milling, that widened its activities when also buying other units manufacter, nominated the bakeries with the first mechanical kneaders. The always present Innovation In 1910 and already with the instauration of 1ª Republic, was installed, in Avenue 24 of July, an nourishing plant of big cookies and masses. This innovative politics, of that the most modern machines are example the vapor, put the mark in the leadership in the alimentary sector of the country.
