A parable can be defined as an imaginative story about events that are very likely to occur. Often, they engage us to learn something about ourselves and the relationships we have and most importantly, our relationship with the ultimate. In Matthew 13 of the New Testament, the disciples ask Jesus why he speaks in parables and his response is, "Because knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven has been granted to you, but to them it has not been granted. To anyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich; from anyone who has not, even what he has will be taken away. This is why I speak to them in parables, because they look but do not see and hear but do not listen or understand."
The parable of the sower can be found in Luke 8, Mark 4, and Matthew 13. The story told is about a sower who went out to sow his seeds. Some of the seeds fell on a dirt path and were quickly eaten up by the birds. Some fell on rocky ground and when the plants grew, they quickly withered because of the lack of moisture. Other seeds fell among thorns and when grown, the thorns grew with it and choked it...
