Commentary of my visual research
To start my research into Daniel Spoerri I began by looking at different object I found around the art department. I tried a variety of techniques and materials, and looked at different areas of detail with each piece. This was to begin my research, basing it on the way Spoerri used found objects in some of his early work. All the objects I looked at in my initial sketches were of manufactured objects, this was to coincide with my initial research where I looked at a series of work by Spoerri involving object found at flea markets. As Spoerri is a sculptor I then decided to move on to objects, and decided on casting a mould. This was the first time I was to use mod-rock for casting, and it was suggested I try and cast my hand. I made 3 casts of my hand, back, front and the whole thing. After casting it in plaster of Paris, I broke the mould to reveal the casts shown in the photos. As I continued with my research my understanding of Spoerri's work developed, and I came upon an idea for my final piece, in response to Daniel Spoerri's work. A sketch of my final piece can be seen on a previous page...
