The Eagle and the Leaf: Differences in Culture between America and Canada While there are a plethora of aspects that differentiate Canada from the U.S.A, the greatest one is the sum of them: How Canadian perception of and interaction with the world and one another differs from that of the American. Despite geographical proximity and cultural similarities, in this respect Canadians and Americans diverge from each other strongly. Comparatively analyzing the two country's foreign and national policies, and the statistical data available for crime and poverty rates, are all good indicators of the factors justifying the generalization that, as a Canadian comedian once put it, "A Canadian is like an American, but without a gun." This comment is relatively superficial but does touch upon a perception widely held by most of the world, and one which, upon scrutiny, bears some truth: Americans are more belligerent and aggressive than Canadians; while Canadians are milder in disposition and more compassionate, out of complacency if not cultural valuation.
