STATUS MONITORING AND ERROR RECOVERY IN
FLEXIBLE MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS
We use supervisory control systems to operate the manufacturing systems, because as time passes we have more improved automated manufacturing systems. Since controlling these systems gets harder, error recovery becomes important. In today's manufacturing systems, all the data for the process is collected and machines are observed by operators and workers. The process is monitored by the operators in order to act correctly towards an error. For this, experienced and trained operators are needed. In automated manufacturing systems, data and information from the machine controllers and sensors are collected readily. But this system is not enough for error recovery.
In computer numerically control systems (CNC), the problems occur with the machine itself, not the whole system. Since the percantage of occurance of problems in handling parts systems and hardware is very greater than the problems in control, self-correcting plays a big role in flexible manufacturing systems. During the decision making and the process of a flexible manufacturing system, our aim is to minimize the involvement of the operator in order to see and observe the process of the system...
